CAT6e and Cat6A: selecting cable for a project

Match the project cable category to the full manufacturer code and data sheet. Assess material compliance and installed-link testing against separate acceptance criteria.

Practical guide

Start with the project category

Fluke Networks distinguishes Category 6e from Category 6A: the labels do not express the same requirement. Cable selection starts with the category and application specified by the project. Match the product data and complete manufacturer’s part number to that requirement. This sequence helps select the cable and connecting components as a compatible set.

Project, product and link acceptance

Compare three levels: what the project needs, what the offered product provides and how the installed link will be tested. Each answers a different selection or acceptance question.

An enquiry that supports comparable offers

A technical enquiry identifies the required category and application, cable construction and length, manufacturer’s part number, product data and a photograph of the sheath marking. List connecting components separately. When a supplier offers an alternative, assess category, construction and package differences against the project requirements. The agreed set forms the basis of the order.
