What the certificate tells you about a supplier

ISO 14001 concerns environmental management, while ISO 45001 addresses occupational health and safety management. Certification of these systems contributes to supplier evaluation alongside technical experience and the ability to fulfil the order. ISO develops the standards; a separate certification body issues the certificate.

The certificate’s scope identifies the activities and sites it covers. Compliance of a particular product or repair outcome is assessed through order-specific documents and acceptance checks. Keeping these assessments distinct gives each purchasing requirement an appropriate basis.

Information that matters for selection

Legal entityFull name and relationship to the contracting supplier.
ScopeActivities and locations actually named on the certificate.

VerificationIssuing body, register or official confirmation channel.

Connect the certificate’s scope to the order

Match the legal entity fulfilling the order and the site where work will be performed to the certificate’s scope. Within a group, a certificate may apply to a particular organisation and activity. The complete document and its scope appendix clarify that relationship. This ties supplier evaluation to the party actually performing the work.

Check the certificate’s current status through the issuer’s register or official channel. The check date and source help keep the information current for later purchases. Assess product documents, inspection results, specialist competence and handover requirements separately for the order. Management systems and technical delivery then each have a clear place in the selection decision.
